Having never posted on HumbleDollar, you might say I’m a member of the 24,000 HumbleDollar “silent majority.” When I first began receiving the newsletter- by luck or accident- I would skip around in it to see if it was worthwhile or worthy of hitting “unsubscribe.” With ensuing newsletters, I began reading more comprehensively and even seeking out older posts and articles, many not strictly pertaining to finance, my original interest when subscribing. In this way HumbleDollar has not only influenced my way of thinking about finance, but you might say life in general. I felt I had to write this in behalf of the many thousands of readers who are not inclined to post on the newsletter but have been similarly affected by it… those you will never know about. Thanks, Jonathan!
The idea of risking a public comment was daunting to me, but when I found out how painless it was, like Rick and Jeff, I was encouraged to try an article. The psychic reward has been well worth my efforts. As you know, this is a great community of folks with whom to share your thoughts. Humble offerings are well-received.
Welcome Michael. I was hesitant to comment at first, and even more hesitant to author an article. But Jonathan was so welcoming and encouraging. I’ve learned so much from other readers and authors. I’d be very interested in learning what influenced your thinking, especially about “life in general”. Sounds fascinating.
Michael (and Rick), that was the same for me, too. I very much encourage everyone to tell their stories. We often have both commonalities and opposing viewpoints that are worthy of discussion.
Good post, Michael.
My experience with Humble Dollar is similar to yours. I started looking at selected Articles several years ago a few times a week, but now look at selected Articles and Forum posts almost daily. I enjoy much of the content.
This is only my third posted comment. Social media are not for me, and same for commenting on Humble Dollar. Also there seems to be a small group of Humble Dollar contributors and frequent commenters who have more time to comment and more interest in commenting than I do. I am content to remain a part of the Silent Majority.
Enjoyable site with excellent content and lively discussions.
Gentlemen, it all starts with one comment and before you know it, you’re a “regular.” 😊
Good thoughts, Michael. I started commenting on some of the posts and people have been helpful. Chris
This is the only “social media”(?) I post on. For the majority of time it is very civil discourse. Jonathan does an excellent job of letting posts going up to a red line, but not crossing it!
Great post. There is so much wisdom out there among the HD readers.
Very nice of you to say that. Why not give posting a try?
Michael, well said and well done!
