whenI have poured my coffee every morning and sit down my first task is to grab my pad and check my email. Usually go right to Humble Dollar, but for the past 6 months have begun with Daily Ideas email from Adam Grossman, Daily Ideas are daily emails for a year with very short financial thoughts (can sign up for through his website Mayport Wealth Management).
Today’s email was a thought from Jonathan, “Retirement is like a long vacation in Las Vegas. The goal is to enjoy it to the fullest, but not so fully that you run out of money.”
My immediate reaction was yup sounds just like Jonathan (short, on point, and with a touch of humor), and a smile.
Here is another Jonathan quote he gave me for my chapter in My Money Journey I think it captures the essence of everything we talk about on HD.
“We can’t control what others do and we can’t stop misfortune from striking. But we can control our own actions. Those who are financially prudent will most likely enjoy success, even if events don’t always go their way.”
Thanks for the smile, Dave. That’s a nice way to kick off the day.
David, you brought a smile to my face as well. As Jonathan’s brother, I can tell you that quote captures him perfectly. He had a remarkable ability to take a complicated financial subject and distill it into a few memorable words, often with a touch of humor. He understood that money was a means to an end, not the end itself. Enjoying the life we’ve worked so hard to build, while being mindful of tomorrow, is a wonderful way to honor his wisdom. Thank you for sharing this little reminder of Jonathan.
