Switching to a HumbleDollar login

If you sign in with Google, Disqus, WordPress.com or X, this adds a HumbleDollar password to the account you already have. It takes about two minutes, and nothing else changes.

You are not signed in at the moment. Start at step 1 below.

The steps

1. Log in the way you always do

   The provider buttons sit above the comment box on any article.

2. Open your account page

   Look for the panel headed Set up direct login.

   Seeing Login & password instead? You already have one, and there is nothing to do here.

   Signing in through Disqus has proven less reliable than logging in here directly, so we are encouraging everyone to switch.

   • Your account, your comments and your history stay exactly as they are.
   • This only adds a password. Nothing is taken away.
   • Disqus still works here if you ever want it.
   • Your username is yourname.

3. Enter an email address you can open

   If the box is empty, your provider never gave us your address. Disqus and X both do this, and the stand-in on your account cannot receive mail. If an address is already there, it is fine to leave.

4. Choose a password, then press Set password

   At least 10 characters.

5. Click the link in the email we send

   Nothing changes until you do. Check your spam folder if it has not arrived within a few minutes.

That is it. Next time, log in at your account page with your username or email address and that password. Your provider still works here too, and your comments and history are untouched.

If it goes wrong

The email never arrived

Check spam, then go back to your account page, where the button now reads Send it again.

The link had expired

Each link works once. Ask for another and use the newest one.

I have forgotten the password

Use the forgotten-password link.

I cannot get in at all

Tell us on the Report an Issue page, with the service you were using and the name your comments appear under.
