I was tricked. It was a good thing. Money well spent.

I wrote this in my wife’s nail salon. On the way there today I was informed she had also made an appointment for me to have a pedicure and manicure.

Yup, a first. It was pointless to resist, besides I was curious. On the other hand,  it would be difficult to get more into unnecessary spending.

I recall in Copenhagen there was a shop where you put your feet in a tub of water filled with little fish who nibbled dead skin off your feet. This wasn’t that thankfully. That’s a bit creepy. With my luck a piranha would have mistakenly gotten into the tub.

The pedicure was especially enjoyable.  Having my old feet and legs massaged was wonderful, exfoliating and a soothing cream, warm towels, oh my😇  Soaking in warm detox salt water was relaxing.  I felt a bit guilt sitting next to Connie and enjoying myself so much, I was the only male in the place, but it WAS her idea.

Don’t knock it gentlemen. However, please note I  declined color on my fingers and toes. Who knows, the next time I may ask for Mercedes gray😎

The bill was $49 plus tip. An extravagance I admit, but if I had a budget, a pedicure would be added as a line item, but the next one is on my calendar. It’s better time spent with Connie than at a doctors office.

The price you quote sounds reasonable. There doesn’t seem to be much variation in our NE region. I was given a foot massager/spa yesterday. Though it won’t give me the pedicure and special details of your massage, I’m going to give it a try today- looks like it’s going to snow so it’s a good day to relax at home. And free. Merry Christmas/Happy Christmas!

My wife used to take me for luxury haircuts in China (the scalp massage and hot facial towels were delightful), but neither of us has ever had a professional manicure or pedicure in our entire lives.

20th anniversary coming up… hmmm…

I agree with Dick’s suggestion: My sister gave me gift certificates to my local nail shop several times when we lived near each other. I was very grateful. Though my husband loved the foot massages he got in China, which were one thing that helped his neuropathy for several days after, I don’t think he would have gone for a mani pedi date afternoon. But I think it sounds like fun! Hope you give it a try.

My husband started going with me for pedicures a year or two ago, and now he’s the one who bugs me to make the appointments!

He even had his toes painted alternating orange and black (SF Giants colors) when we were about to go to baseball spring training in Arizona. But that was just to amuse himself because he never goes bare-toed anywhere. 🧡🖤⚾️

Way to splurge a bit, and the cost doesn’t even have to go into your budget! Merry Christmas!

Richard: I actually meant to use the word spreadsheet, but either way, it was intended as a joke, having read your many items about not using a budget or spreadsheet. Merry Christmas!

Next up, a massage, sauna, (and if you are really brave) a cold plunge.

Years ago I walked a foot beat at a local mall and the lady running the nail shop constantly asked me about a pedicure. I told her I was embarrassed to have any of my collogues see me getting one. She opened early before I went on duty one day and I had one done. I went to work that day with “happy feet” and never looked back. That was over 30 years ago and every four weeks or so I still get one. Great feeling feet beat my fear of embarrassment toes down. Thank-you for the great article.

I know a tough guy, a guy you do not want to mess with, a guy you want on your side in a dark dangerous alley. He said the same thing as you about having these services done.
Who was I to call him a big sissy?
I think it’s a great way to spend time with Connie.
Merry Christmas, Dick.

Amen to the last sentence Dick. Enjoy your Christmas with Connie, and I assume a good portion of your hoard. 🎄

Well, I’m glad you enjoyed yourself! It’s definitely not my cup of tea, but then again, I’ve never had a pedicure or massage—I don’t even like going to the barbers for a haircut 💈
I just got back from a walk with my grandson. Our destination? A family-run ice cream parlour. Man, their ice cream is so good… if I had my way, I’d go every day 😂
