Thank you for sharing Jonathan. I was wondering if you have tried an e-trike. It might be a fun way to get out for some riding with pedal assist or even using the throttle. We have one with a basket in the back and we enjoy riding it to farmers market and the fruit stand. Ours is a Pedego and it has held up well. Thinking about you. Keep going.
My Dad taught me to never invested in anything he didn’t understand. He used CDs and Saving Accounts. I wish I would have learned more from Mr. Bogle at a younger age. I greatly appreciate his teachings on enough, lower fees and investing for the long term.
I enjoy spending money on of the above. I loved saving money while I was working. I never used bonuses or stock options to fund our budget. I used that money for extra contributions to my 401K.
We would be OK if we didn't have any returns from the market or Social Security but I would be wishing I had moved even more from VTI to my CD, MYGA, and TIPS ladders.
I loved my work as a drug discovery scientist and retirement is even better. I felt like a success even though the teams I led were never able to get a drug on the market. I was offered a buy-out earlier than I was planning to retire and it turned out to be a great thing.
Being financially independent is a beautiful thing. Making money from investments while in retirement is a blessing. My pension is a wonderful benefit. I hope Social Security will start in June at full retirement age as scheduled.
My family, riding my bike and volunteering. I enjoy cooking in a tilting skillet with friends every Monday at Second Helpings. I also have had the pleasure of volunteering at 3 Carter work projects with Habitat for Humanity.
We have Cadillac LTCi policies. Hopefully we will be able to continue to pay the premiums until we need the benefits. I hope to live a full life and then die like falling off the cliff. I don’t want to take a long walk down the hill when I am no longer healthy.
I hope so. We plan to convert the money we spend on maintenance for our lake house to an annual family vacation fund after we sell our lake house this fall. We hope to share more with our family while we can see them using the money.
Hitting Repeat…
I enjoyed reading your stories. When I started thinking about my repeat list the memory of our family vacation last June came to mind. I grew up in Gettysburg, PA and we returned with our children several times a year to visit my parents and family. Our children wanted to return on family vacation so they could repeat some of their favorite childhood memories and show their children. In June, the nine of us piled into a rental 15 passenger van and drove from Carmel, Indiana to Gettysburg. My wife and I rented a beautiful VRBO on what used to be the 9th hole of the Gettysburg Country Club (where my parents played golf with their friends and where we used to swim). We visited our favorite sites in and around Gettysburg National Military Park including Trostle’s Barn (with the cannon ball hole in the wall), the Visitor Center (where my father’s guide uniform is on display), Tommy’s Pizza, “The Narrows”, The Federal Pointe Inn (a 3 star hotel that used to be Meade Elementary where I attended grades 1-4 in the 60s and where my dad was head teacher in the 50s), and my childhood home. It was a wonderful trip and I hope we are able to hit repeat in a few years to make more memories with our children and grandchildren and to eat another delicious hamburger sub from Tommy’s.

Keep up the good work Jonathan. Thinking and praying for you.
