I thought it might be interesting to ponder the things about our lives we are perfectly content with and would not change regardless of money.
If you received an unexpected inheritance of $20 million, would you move to a different house/location? Would you drive a different vehicle? Would you eat or dress differently? I don’t think I would. I’m living exactly where and how I want to live. Of course, this is easy to say now. Inheriting a fortune might change things, but I’d like to think it wouldn’t in these major areas. What about you?
I would continue to eat food that I grow and harvest myself, including fruit, vegetables, fish, and game.
I would still shop at Thriftstores and garage sales. Truly the original treasure hunt.
Good one, Ed.
I’d lease a private jet, hire a pilot, and travel to bucket list locations – New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, etc. Until the money ran out.
But what parts of your life are you so content with, no amount money would change?
I wouldn’t like the complexity that would be added to my life with that kind of financial infusion. I’d feel responsible to use/distribute the money wisely but would be annoyed by how much of my time would be consumed doing so. I have no desire to increase my standard of living. I also would hate to be a lottery winner-no chance of that happening.
Ditto Dan and Dick. How to share with family and others.
We love our house, are happy with our cars, we eat out anytime we feel like it, travel when we want to, and pretty much buy what we want. We currently take a 3% distribution from our IRA’s and turn right around put it into our brokerage account. If we wanted more we have the resources to make it happen. So I guess that I’d have to figure out how to help people, but without being taken advantage of.
Nothing much would change for us. I would start thinking about the best way to share it.
