    • My wife and I are polar opposites on spending. She always says “ you can’t take it with you,” to which I reply “you won’t have to worry about it.” But we have learned to appreciate others positions. We’ve certainly known people who squirreled away and denied themselves for decades assuming they’ll really enjoy life when they retire, only to drop dead shortly after retiring.

    • But it was a smaller than average villa, Mark. Yes we are very blessed. My wife and I debate who grew up with less and I say I did because her father worked for a big oil company. Now that we’re comfortable, her attitude is money is to be enjoyed because we may not be here tomorrow. Mine is to squirrel it away because you never know the big crash could be right around the corner. She has helped me enjoy the moment.

    • That sounds a lot like means testing, no thanks. Because you scrimped and saved to invest you don’t deserve your social security? It would be better to remove the income variable and just make all income subject to social security.

    • Toss the estate tax or just have it kick in at like a billion. It makes it enormously hard to pass a successful family business on which is why Berkshire Hathaway has had so many family businesses sell to it.

    • Apparently a lot of people feel they are paying a lot (US most expensive health care in the world) but aren’t receiving care with insurance companies playing games and denying care. Wars have been started with similar beliefs.
