Although I am in a group plan so I don't shop, I have played around with the Part D Medicare plan finder out of curiousity . The differences (Massachusetts) I could see were worth doing . Friends have told me the same thing. I don't think the Medigap differs much though
You're right- based on what I see on social media posts , most Medicare beneficiaries have no idea what's going on. I am in a group plan through my former employer and have not seen my premium increase yet. They combine Part D with Medigap premium. One time I tried asking out of curiousity what the breakout was but they couldn't tell me
This is the same old argument policy makers have been trotting out for years. I really doubt that the vast majority of Plan G patients are over using healthcare. Who really wants to waste time calling , be on hold, then drive to the doctor and wait in the waiting room?
During the 1950s and 1960's I can remember my mother darning socks and turning the collars on my father's dress shirts. She also made some of our clothes and one time, a beautiful coat for Easter. Definately a lost art today. I think by the 1980s she had ceased doing those things as not cost effective. Years later from time to time she would make beautiful holiday dresses for the granddaughters strictly as a labor of love.
A good list . I too won't return to horseback riding at my age , nor will I ever fly AA again. I always said I would never go to Las Vegas and so far I've kept my word.
But not a healthy one. Major stroke in his early 60s, compression fractures in his back (probably osteoporosis ) in his early 70s, plus other maladies.
That's the rational way to approach it of course, but sometimes the feeling of being debt free is liberating. My first mortgage in 1981 was 16% ! As rates came down over the years , I re-financed or bought a new house. Never had anything close to 2.625 though . Been mortgage free since 2007.

It's usually very easy for the doctor . They just click in a drop down box one time and done.
