My name is Francine Duke and I'm a recently retired Financial Planner. I was the founding principal of Aqua Financial Planning, LLC, an independent fee-only Registered Investment Advisory and Financial Planning Firm. I have a B.S. in Finance and over thirty years of high level experience in the financial and insurance industries with an extensive background working with both individuals and small to mid-size businesses. I served on the board of the Financial Planning Association, North Shore Council in various roles including President and Chairwoman. I still enjoy everything financial and obviously have a keen interest in retirement related matters.

When we sold our house, I put the proceeds in a different bank from the one we use for checking as well as two credit cards. It made me feel safer to have that money at a bank that wasn't linked to any other activity or accounts.

I work up two documents during the first few days of January each year which I share with my husband. The first is titled “Our Retirement Income”. It provides monthly and annual amounts (gross and net) for our Pension and Social Security income for the upcoming year itemized out and totaled up at the end. The second is titled “Our Net Worth”. It includes current balances for all of our accounts (checking, savings, IRA’s etc). I also note the amount and percent that our total net worth has changed from the previous year.

Great article! I completed our final Roth conversion recently to take advantage of the 12% bracket. My goal is to reduce the taxability of our Social Security income for us as a couple as well as for a surviving spouse who will likely end up in a higher tax bracket.

Advantage plans may be cheaper, but once you get sick you will pay the price for that. Plus, we like to choose our own doctors and not have to beg for approval before a procedure. I'm very happy that we have Traditional Medicare with our F supplements (no longer offered - G is best now).

I will add that any caller can leave a voice mail. Then, you can decide if it's legitimate or not.

A few years ago, I set my phone to only accept calls from known numbers. It's been wonderful!
