State Farm Dividend

Yesterday, I got an email from State Farm asking me to choose a payment method for my dividend. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was a scam, but it’s legit.

Apparently, State Farm is issuing a one-time $5 billion cashback dividend to customers who had a qualifying auto policy in 2025, with percentages ranging from 4% to 10%.

If you received an email with a Dividend ID and PIN, you can easily check how much you can get. Otherwise, you can also enter your policy information and name to find out.

I received a mere $46, but I’ll take it. You can check and select your payment method at: https://sfdividend.com

I filled out the online forms a while back and this week got emails that my refunds had been paid to Venmo. The emails had a link to click to claim the money. I know better than to click that kind of link in an email, but when I went to my Venmo account, there’s nothing there. I think it’s probably legit, but I’m still not clicking on that link.

Thanks Bogdan. My refund is $164. I will definitely take it.

I was intrigued by this post. Please forgive me for going off topic, but I got a similar email from Biddle v. the Walt Disney Company. The email said there was a class action lawsuit payout for anyone who had YouTube TV or DirecTV between 4/1/2019 and 3/1/2026. It came with an ID and PIN. I’m suspicious. Anyone have any thoughts or got the same email?

It is great to get a dividend, but they talk about it and then hopefully in 10 or more weeks, it will actually arrive. It all seems like marketing to me. And, oh by the way, my umbrella policy went up, are you ready, 104%, that is not a typo. Car insurance up 13%. I have been with State Farm a very long time, 58 years. I tried to change, looked at 11 alternative companies, The $200 difference per year was not worth it, because they played games, one company has car at $2000, the other at $1000, etc. Pretty much could not find the same insurance for Renters, Car, Jewelry, Umbrella for less in aggregate. If you did not notice, I really do NOT like insurance companies. Go to any downtown of a large US city, and who owns the tallest buildings, mostly insurance companies. That ought to tell you something.

State Farm stopped insuring our house (in Florida) for hurricanes decades ago and I haven’t looked back since.

I have been a SF customer for more than 30 years. Several years ago I shopped my policy with other leading insurers. Overall, SF was the lowest. That, plus their good service made it an easy choice.

Lucky for you that StF provides good service. After they challenged a simple $275 auto glass claim on a rental car, I wholly disagree.

For anyone living in CA, they will not write any new home, renters, or umbrella policies.

Note that StF has significantly changed their sales rep compensation model, favoring those reps who grow their biz and punishing reps who do not. Expect a shaking out period by longtime reps.

Yep, I had to move all of our insurance this year because we bought a new house and State Farm won’t write new homeowners’ policies in California. We’d been with SF since 1989 and with this agent in Davis since 1991. They seemed shocked when I moved the cars, too, but I pointed out that if I wanted an umbrella policy, which I absolutely do, I had to have all the policies together. It was a bummer because that office has been great, but I told them if they ever start writing new policies again, maybe we’ll be back.

Good point re: the Umbrella policy. Would you kindly share who you’re with? Ty

Note that not all State Farm policyholders are in the State Farm Mutual company. If you have had any chargeable claims or issues, you might not qualify for the dividend in your state.

In Iowa, State Farm Mutual’s 2025 auto rates were 15% lower than the 2024 rates, (but homeowners rate went up 11%,) so I expect to be at the lower end of the schedule.

One of the nice things about mutual auto rates is that dividends are not prospectively included when the company sets rates. Mutual life insurance companies include dividends in the rate calculation and tout lower net premiums.

Thank you very much, Bogdan. I got the notice on August 22nd but it was buried in the “junk” mail so I missed it. Sure enough, it was there and it was worth $228 after going through the sign up steps. My St Farm agent said it was handled very “clumsily” by t go through to get it. Still, $228 out of the blue was worth a bit of hassle.

I just spoke with my State Farm agent and New Jersey is the only state that is NOT receiving a dividend!

That’s not quite correct. State Farm does not write policies in New Jersey in the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company – the one that will issue the dividend. Instead it uses the State Farm Indemnity Company and State Farm Guaranty Insurance Company.

Check your insurance card for the name of your company and if it is not the mutual corporation, you won’t get a payment.

I can’t imagine why ! They don’t write auto in Mass. except as a convenience for customers who move here. If they did, I doubt there would be a dividend . I don’t think any mutual has ever paid one here .

You’ll get a dividend for every vehicle, so in my case I received three notices and three different amounts. Of course, the dividend notices didn’t all come on the same day!

We get a dividend check from New Jersey Manufacturers (car and home insurance) once a year. I think it’s usually around $125. Better than nothing!

We’re getting $198 back. Have to wonder is this a ploy to curry favor with the State Insurance Commissioners to let them pass on the annual increases? I pay an awful lot for car insurance but their wind and hail rates make bundling work.

If I remember correctly , State Farm has cut rates two years in a row in most states. They must have a huge surplus to pay a dividend . Enjoy it while you can !

We are getting $175 back. I checked with my agent before I clicked on the email link as I wanted to make sure it was legit.

Thanks, Bogdan. I thought this was a scam, too, but I did the research and discovered I’ll get $132 back.
