I’d like to pose a question to fellow HumbleDollar readers: What would you think about creating a dedicated space on the HD site where we can share book reports on titles relevant to the community—books on topics like investing, asset allocation, behavioral finance, risk management, financial history, and similar subjects?
Personally, after I read a book that I find valuable, I like to write a short report highlighting the ideas that stood out to me. It helps reinforce what I’ve learned, and allows me to refer back to these summaries later. I usually post them on my Facebook timeline, but I wonder if the HumbleDollar community might benefit from a shared venue for this kind of content.
Such a space could help others decide whether a particular book is worth their time—and might spark some thoughtful discussions along the way. Would you find this useful? Would you be interested in contributing?
It’s great to see the interest in sharing reviews of books that HumbleDollar readers feel are relevant to the community. As Jonathan mentioned, book reviews are welcomed as regular Forum posts. But, in my “humble” opinion (I couldn’t resist), it would be helpful to have a dedicated section for book reviews, similar to the one set aside for Articles. Otherwise, these posts can easily get buried within the broader Forum discussions.
A dedicated space would make it easier for readers to browse and discover titles others have found valuable. I’m not familiar with the level of effort required to modify the site to enable this suggestion, but if it’s feasible, I think it would be a nice addition to HumbleDollar.
Ed: Before I have my web developer revamp the site’s homepage — not exactly a modest request — you’ll need to prove the idea’s popularity. So, please, post some book reviews. Let’s see whether others like the idea.
Great idea! I’ve read a number of terrific books that I learned about from this site.
Ed the book reviews do need to be started as past posts had referenced books I bought home from the local library and was never disappointed.
Great idea.
I like the idea as a forum post when someone has an interesting book they would like to share on the topics Ed mentioned.
I like this idea 🙂
Jonathan’s suggestion is great. I would like to see your book summaries, as there is plenty in those topics that I would like to learn more about. I would imagine there are others who would also contribute.
Ed: You should feel free to post your book reviews as regular Forum posts. I’m sure folks would love to read them.
