When I toured Ireland a dozen years ago they told us about the Guinness to laboring mother's like it was still done currently! More you've tarnished one of my favorite memories!
The other I've never forgotten is the Irishman version of foreplay: "brace yourself bridget!" Hahaha
As my grandmother aged, she kept her house at about 90 degrees. Maybe your just not old enough to appreciate what you've got yet! Also is this the lake house you mentioned? If not... go there for 3 weeks!
I had my first knee replaced 4 days ago... so I'm ahead of your schedule as I'm still a few years before retirement. I also turned 50 at the start of covid and to this day feel cheated of some kind of pomp and circumstance that should have been. Even as I write that I realize it's ridiculous to carry this grudge in the grand scheme of things but I'm practicing giving myself some grace.
It's like Name That Tune. I'm getting so I can spot a Mark Post in 2 sentences. I'm not retired yet but I certainly looking forward to a celebratory splurge. I'm like Dr Lefty... it's likely to be a home. Buying a cottage next door to the guy with a boat like you did would be right up there on life goals. Why own the boat when you can make friends with a guy with a boat?!
I really enjoyed this post. Thank you. The reminder to appreciate any step in a positive direction is so healthy. I think we have lost that in our 'immediate gratification' culture.
DrLefty - I so enjoyed this article and was living vicariously thru you. HOW EXCITING. One suggestion... Put the same amount of your old HOA fees aside in a 'Future Renovations' account for a couple years. I did the same with the money I used to spend on my old snow plow services when I moved south. I found it easier to give myself permission to spend it that way and every time I did pull something out of there it would tickle me all over again: "I NEVER HAVE TO PAY FOR TO BE PLOWED OUT EVER AGAIN!" Hahaha.
Yeah. I'm gonna try to figure this out as well. And I'm all in on caffeine free coke as well Mark but none of that sugar free nonsense. ;) (Or as my doctor calls it 'liquid death' vs 'new and improved liquid death')
I read your first sentence quickly and had to back up and read it again. I swear, I thought you said "Last February, before I retired from wrestling..." hahaha. I thought Whoa. Who IS this guy?!
Thanks for the post.

Sophie! We've gotta find a way to get pics in these posts! If she's like mine, she'll not enjoy the new doorbell.

MARK! I am exactly the same. I have 5 instead of 2 but... WHAT WAS I THINKING?! I just work around them and try not to make eye contact.
