Julie, we are in a somewhat similar state of mind. It's about time to replace our Jeep. Last year I set aside a TIPS in my Roth, as I wasn't prepared to buy and I wanted to ensure I'd have the funds. We don't keep much in our taxable account, as we do a yearly withdrawal from our IRA and then have SS income.
My inclination is for an EV that has lidar based driver assist. The thinking is that as a septuagenarian, this technology is an appropriate expense. Lidar isn't affect by rainfall (as distinct from optical sensors), and the driver assist capabilities on EVs have been dramatically improving. We are leaning towards a Rivian R2, 2nd batch which will include lidar.
