I would do Vanguard Lifestyle funds also, except I don't feel the need for a bond portion because of our high current income stream compared to our expenses. For that reason I stay fully invested in stock index etf's
That sounds like what Hostess is made of nowadays. When I started we had a three days freshness code. Now their product is drop shipment and has a"freshness" code of two to three months. Back in 1978 Twinkies sold for 24¢ and everything else sold for 27¢
I had to look at your name to be sure I didn't write your response 😁 . It is exactly how I would have responded including the fact that our accounts are all at Vanguard
Fun Fact , Twinkles we're originally banana . But when the war started all bananas were sent to the soldiers so Hostess started using vanilla filling instead
It's mixed blessing of guaranteed income from pensions (33 years at Hostess Cake/Wonder Bread , 15 years from school for myself, 30 years from school for my wife) and my social security, her spousal social security, and a few decades of investing in low cost Vanguard etf's
Interesting timing for this post. Even though I don't use a financial advisor I went yesterday to receive the Portfolio Risk Analysis that one ran for me.
His software runs 1000 scenarios and gives a percentage chance of having our portfolio run out over the next 20 years.
Best case scenario and average scenario returns going forward it indicated we have a 0% chance of going to zero. Worst case scenario which includes another downturn similar to 2008 puts us at a 1% chance is running our portfolio to zero.
I have asked Gemini for our portfolio analysis. I found it to be insightful and it validated my portfolio decisions.
Even though I do no use a financial Advisor I am going tomorrow for a meeting with one to get a portfolio risk analysis.
I am looking forward to see how they compare, agree, it disagree
This isn't necessarily retirement account related but twenty years ago before we ever heard of the bucket approach my wife suggested that we have different savings buckets for different purposes.
We have a car, a vacation, and a general bucket that we put money into monthly. Since then we've never made payments on our vacations or our cars. We don't go on the vacation or purchase a vehicle until we have cash saved up to buy it
I can think of one upside: Musk.
He is the most creative diverse innovative genius of our time, or maybe of all time. That being said, I have two reasons I will not be invest. (1) The valuation and hype make it unreasonable to me, (2) I only own broad market index etf's so if or when they add it to their portfolio I will own it

Thanks for sharing. My biggest concern going forward is also that my wife isn't interested in finances so I try to simplify ours
