Really sad to hear the news. Like everyone else has mentioned, I and others have greatly benefited from your generosity. I sincerely pray for your treatment to go well and for you to recover back to health.

Thanks for sharing. I was in a similar path where it took me a while to figure out that index investing is the best option. I had a really hard time adjusting to the fact that I'll get "average" returns in spite of "supposedly" knowing more than an average investor :). So I kept following factors and did multi-factor funds, valuation based dynamic allocation using index funds etc. Then finally realized that I was screwing myself over and wasting time that I could be spending on my human capital or my family. I'm using total market index ETFs in my taxable account and just target date funds in my retirement account now. I still get antsy about my stock/bond allocation every now and then but I have been resisting temptations to fiddle with it so far. I came across this article from Rick Ferri a while back and his education of an index investor topic totally resonated with me.

Thanks for the perspective. Wishing your go-go years to be extended to the max. I'm 45 right now and have been targeting to retire at 57. I don't "love" my job but I like it. This makes me think about retiring early though if I can afford it. Major concern I have is the health insurance before being eligible for medicare. Need to do more research on potential costs and availability in my area.

I use Instapaper https://www.instapaper.com/ and I love it. We can create folders, tags etc to organize everything. Even the pid subscription doesn't cost much and is very useful. I had actually saved this article to it.

The process for changing banks on TreasuryDirect has changed. I was able to go in and change mine pretty quickly recently just like on any other financial website without any paperwork.

Great reminder on what's important in life. I especially liked the part about the company-family myth and loyalty to the company. I recently took a senior manager position that pays really well but I'm having to do almost 12 hour days Mon-Thu with a 5 month old to take care of, and wondering if it's all worth it. Also made me revisit one of my favorite articles on the 'busy trap'
