I always like seeing Jonathan’s monthly top hits list for articles, which is based on page views. I thought I’d compile something similar for the Forum to recognize posts that had the highest engagement last month. My engagement metric uses a proprietary formula based on a combination of likes and comments.
How about the three most liked posts? Feeling Lucky, Humble Bragging and Nobody Wants to Pay Healthcare Bills.
Ken, Nice job. As a scientist (and a troublemaker), I feel compelled to pose a data query: how to adjust for time variance. Articles presented earlier in the month have had more time to be viewed, thus perhaps skewing end results. 😉
Jeff, I was thinking about that very topic. I assume Ken uses some form of time weighted scoring, considering likes and comments per hour of availability. I also think the scoring should have some form of “degree of difficulty” factor. For example, anything related to SS claiming is guaranteed to get likes and comments. More thought-provoking topics, like the moral challenges one faces when falling into a Subaru, deserve a 2X or 3X multiplier when they are scored. Not trying to cause trouble mind you.
I suppose you guys also expect me to discount posts with a high QCF (Quinn Controversy Factor).
yes
Would the multiplier be different for a Tesla or a BMW? This is starting to feel like Olympics gymnastics judging.
I’m sure the reimbursement for a Tesla rear light is significantly higher than a late model Subaru. You could ratio the costs and increase the score accordingly. An Olympic judge would have scored my fall a minus 1000.
Jeff: Now you know why my formula is proprietary-to head off troublemakers at the pass. 😉
Admittedly, it is tough being an instigator!
Thanks for doing this Ken. I’d love to see the spreadsheet you use to generate the stats!
