    • I'm sorry to laugh at your money saving technique but this was hilarious. I know I will NEVER come close to having as much money as you have (so you will have the last laugh) but this reminds me of something my parents would do. When I was in my 20's, a wise friend told me to "live it up" when I travel because I may never return to that destination in the future. When I travel, I might waste money but I never waste time. My itinerary is exactly what I want to accomplish in each location (with some buffer time built in). Next year I'm traveling to India. It will be my one and only trip to India. I have a hotel room booked that overlooks the Taj Mahal. It will be magnificent and expensive. I can't wait! I'm too busy working to take more than a couple trips each year. I make sure I enjoy every second of my trips. I'm sorry you lost your dear wife. May her memory be eternal.

    • Plus I enjoy the ritual of making my lunch! Not to mention, I don't waste my entire lunch break in a drive-thru line waiting for food.

    • My coworkers make approximately $40,000. They purchase lunch EVERY SINGLE DAY. Luckily, my income is much higher. Regardless, I bring my lunch every day. It's delicious, inexpensive and healthy. Between their lunches, lottery tickets and tattoos, I'm quite sure they aren't saving much for their future. Hopefully their lucky numbers hit one day!

    • Over the years, I've been mindful of how many photos/videos I take of my children. Even though most photos are electronic, no one will want thousands and thousands of photos of my kids one day. Especially their future spouses! Even my own children quickly tire of looking at photos from their early years. I try to live in the moment and snap just enough photos to satisfy my needs.

    • I've been driving for many, many years without AAA. I bought membership about 3 months ago. After reading your article, I think I will forgo renewal. I believe between my cell phone and the goodwill of other humans, I will be able to manage. I liked the AAA discounts but I will qualify for the AARP discounts soon anyway. Thanks for the great article!

    • I love this! I believe the best things in life happen with no planning and by chance. Great to hear your interesting story.

    • I spent part of my career working for non-profits. After witnessing first hand the waste and mismanagement of funds, I struggle to donate to charities. HOWEVER, I am generous by nature so I find other ways to give. I start by always tipping more than expected. I give money to street performers. I tip people that don't expect a tip. There is a local private school that educates at-risk children. I frequently purchase specific items for the school - like a pizza party they use as a reward or sports equipment. Although this is an unconventional way to donate, I feel my money is actually helping an individual instead of increasing the bonus of executives. I realize there is no tax deduction associated with my form of giving. A tax deduction is not my reason for giving.

    • I love to try different restaurants. I'm not fussy so I try a variety of restaurants/foods. Also, I get great pleasure from my first cup of coffee in the morning and my afternoon nap (just a quick catnap that revives me for the rest of my day).
