I agree with the sabbatical comment below. I took a 2 month sabbatical when I completed my full time role. (I don’t use the term “retirement”, I use the term “time affluent.”) I used the sabbatical to plan out my new season of life and to do things that I would not have done while working. It gives you permission to have no hard agenda and allows you freedom to rest, build relationships, try new things, etc. I recommend it to anyone who is moving into their time affluent stage of life.
Matt, thanks for the thoughtful article. It is easy to be carried along with the flow of our culture and not pause on reflect on questions which should be central to life. More isn’t always better. And it is more blessed to give than receive.
Thanks for the thoughtful article. Two out of the three first Christmas that my wife and I watched this season, were It’s a Wonderful Life and a Christmas Carol. They bring a perspective of generosity that I need to hear this season.
