    • I just moved to Fl and my insurance rates are lower than when I lived in Virginia. Perhaps because my FL home is new?

    • On the flip side, if you can't afford a rent increase then you can't afford the higher taxes and maintenance. The one benefit of home ownership when retired is the monthly outgo should be lower (hopefully) with owning verses renting as there is no principle and interest to pay for. Either way one is paying taxes and insurance, but owning allows you to only pay two of the four parts of home ownership.

    • I hate the term “vaccine deniers” as its so disingenuous. I don’t know of anyone that is against vaccines…just the Covid vaccine. There is no point in rehashing the reasons to question the Covid vaccine, but painting those who have concerns regarding this “vaccine” as all-encompassing vaccine deniers is akin to using insults to win an argument. I don’t begrudge anyone for doing what their view is best medically for them and their situation. I just wish the same level of information, legal options, and disclosures were public like all other vaccines.

    • What I like about FERS, its not an either/or: its both a pension and 401k.

    • You are wrong. Clergy are not to pay as self employed and are typically excluded from social security taxes and benefits.

    • I agree with you as those are valid questions. I did my first conversion at 52 and am now at 57. I can't touch my 401k for two more years, but them plan to do as big of a conversion as I can within my bracket up to age 63. At that point I'll have to consider IRMAA and decide the path going forward.

    • I say this respectfully, but either you have never visited The Villages or if you have, it hasn't been in the last 5 years. I suspect you got your Villages is "32 square miles" from Wikipedia, but that number is seriously outdated. It is now 57 square miles (https://www.thevillages.com/faq/), and spans three counties. I agree with the median age, but what isn't explained in web pages is the older age residents are in the north part of the Villages, which makes sense since that is where it all started. As one works their way south, the age drops the farther one goes. I live in the most southern part, and am surrounded by those my age...low to mid 50s. This is important because no matter your age, you can move to a section that closely reflects your age group. I go to my village driveway parties and hear late 1970s and 1980 rock where my mother goes to hers and hear music from the late 1950s. Location is important! Yes, it is a retirement community, but surrounding the villages for those 55+ are Villages family developments with Middleton being the latest (https://mymiddleton.com/ ). These are homes for those that work in and support the Villages. I bring this up because while all ones neighbors are in our age demographic, one can go to the town squares and be surrounded by folks of all ages. Its nice to see teenagers without having to hear a basketball in the driveway! After visiting 40+ 55 and over communities before settling in The Villages, size makes all the difference. After living here, any other 55+ community would be a disappointment. If you want to see for yourself, this is a great option as you have access to all the amenities as well as a golf cart (https://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle-preview-plan/ ).

    • I find it interesting that people have the viewpoints that Richard pointed out, but don't have the same viewpoint as the Medicare tax paid. Maybe because the amount taken out per paycheck isn't as high or its not money that one directly receives later in life. I view both Social Security and Medicare as a tax and didn't plan my upcoming retirement as either having a factor. If/When I receive a benefit, it will be the cherry on top of the sundae.
