Too many times we only read about how we need to retire at 72 to get the most out of Social Security. I find this absurd because I have known way too many people who never got to enjoy their retirement. These people only worked until their mid 60s and died a few years after that. Looking forward to retiring at 61 and encouraging people to do the same.
As I get older, I have found my need for friendship has faded- Too busy with life and family. Having friends is too much work and they never cease to disappoint. Perhaps, I feel this way because I have 4 siblings who have always been there for me when I needed them. I truly enjoy helping people and like to spread joy but having friendships now and in the past has been frustrating and less satisfying. At this stage in life, I would rather have acquaintances and not get caught up in friends' dramas. Maybe it's different for men.
Thanks so much for sharing this article. I thought you financial types never made financial hiccups. After reading this article I feel much better about my bad decisions/bad luck. I think a lot of us non financial types out there are relieved knowing that we're not the only ones who get hit by Life. Getting hit with financial mistakes took a toll on me for years. I can finally forgive myself and stop feeling so useless and hopeless. Thanks for helping me move on!
Thanks for not making reference to taking a bone in rib eye and preparing it WELL done. I thought for sure that I was going to read it like that but instead you chose ketchup. People normally roll their eyes when I order my meat well done...it takes skill to prep a steak that is tender yet well done. Thanks for the tips on The Middle shelf. I have been wanting to try whiskey but didn't know what to buy.
Thanks for this article. I always knew that I felt sad/hopeless in the winter months but never knew that there was a name for the hopelessness that I felt. I have felt this way since I was a child and I am now in my early 50s. I truly appreciate this knowledge on SAD and will remember to follow your advice. Much appreciated Jiab!
My problem with tipping now is that servers expect a 20% tip regardless of the horrible service. Because of this crappy service, I rarely go out to eat anymore. And yes I AGREE that if you can't afford to tip at restaurants, you shouldn't be eating at them and I agree that seniors are the worst tippers and are usually better off than everyone else out there.
