What happened to HumbleDollar’s articles? They’re still here, just farther down the homepage. As I prep the site for a future without me, I’m shifting the focus away from new articles and to the Forum, where writers and readers can post their thoughts directly to the site without my involvement. That said, I monitor all Forum posts—as well as other comments on the site—to make sure nothing untoward ends up on HumbleDollar.

Meanwhile, the site will continue to publish new articles. My current plan is to post five new articles a week through March 1, 2025. Depending on my health, that date may get moved up or moved back. Subscribers may have noticed that there was no Wednesday newsletter this week. Instead, from here on, there will be just one weekly newsletter. Through March 1, 2025, I plan to continue sending out a newsletter every Saturday, though that, too, hinges on my health.

The NYT’s Ron Lieber just wrote a denigrating feature on Jonathan. Here is my response ti his editor: pollocke@nytco.com

I write to complain about Ron Lieber’s column about Jonathan Clements. I assume the errors are due to professional competitiveness. First, he mis-characterizes Jonathon’s 3 principles of retirement investing—annuities are not a key component, his two columns this week are standard basic advice and nothing like Lieber’s summary (have a look); secondly, to denigrate him by saying his retirement advice is biased by having good retirement plans is simply not true for most Americans; third, the snarky comments on his ex handling the kid’s tuition is uncalled for. You know as an editor the main themes of his preparing for a long retirement and then shifting to a one year plan due to cancer and communicating this to his readers was the key theme and was not communicated here. His competitive snarky comments were not justified.

I believe all the HD readers hope and pray for a miracle and you can pull through this. I lost my 27 year old great nephew to cancer this past week. He battled it for 9 months. Also this week, my wife was diagnosed with early alzheimer’s. I hate it when #$*! hits the fan.

Since sharing the shocking news about your health, your writing seems, to me at least, better than ever! I hope you are tolerating the treatments well and and truly appreciate your continued writing and commenting!

Jonathan,

Everyone here appreciates your efforts, during a most difficult time, to ensure the continuing existence of this fine thing you’ve created. I hope you are here for a long time to continue overseeing it. But regardless of what the future may bring, HD is a beautiful and fitting capstone to all your work over so many years helping so many people.

Thank you for this gift.

Andrew
