Hi, looking for thoughts on managed payout funds. I’ve been test driving one for a few years and it seems to be doing a good job so far. T Rowe Price retirement income fund 2020. I made an initial investment and have been receiving a monthly payment in the 4.5% range (based on the 1 year return) and the balance seems to be growing about 5% a year as well with no further contributions. The fee is a tad high (.53) but other than that it seems to perform well so far. It’s actively managed and I think 5% of the portfolio is hedged to balance out any major market swings aiming to  provide fairly stable, consistent returns. Thank you.

I’ve long thought managed payout funds had the potential be a useful product for some investors, but success has been mixed. Indeed, Vanguard pulled the plug on its payout fund last year.
