I just completed my third year as a volunteer with Tax Aide. It is such a rewarding experience. Here in Kansas one reason many people file when they otherwise wouldn't need to (besides protecting their social security number), is for a Homestead refund (refund of a percentage of property taxes paid). This amount can vary from a minimum of $35 to several thousand, depending. We had many taxpayers ask if the AARP Tax Aide program would lose funding and be cancelled in the future. Hopefully that won't be the case.
