I completely concur with the analysis. Countries that create wealth follow the rule of law, period. This is why Singapore, Switzerland, Eurozone are wealthier than say Russia, Saudi Arabia etc. I will not invest in Chinese companies, no matter how cheap they get.
Interesting experience and story, and one I'm very familiar with having also immigrated from India. In my case, there was no doubt in my mind - I cam here at 20 to become an American. I married a Texan gal, worked in leadership roles in IT, and retired at 54. Later I realized I could've retired earlier. For at least 7 years, my only savings were my 401(k) as my wife was not working, and we had two kids. But, compounding works. I'm 100% equities, almost all in dividend growth stocks (that I rarely sell) and index ETFs. I was reasonably frugal - bought new cars and only sold when they hit 250,000 miles or so; paid off the home ASAP; bought few clothes and possessions but always high quality ones (cheaper in the long run). Enjoy your retirement!
