It is some sort of cultural narcissism? I don't understand it to be honest.

I'd add: Politeness Baby boomer: Please and thank you. OK some aren't but in general in my experience this is our norm. Maybe because we are thankful to be alive? i know i am.. Under 40: It depends.. but please and thank you seem much less common from my observations.

We almost never use written checks other than to pay ourselves (B 2 P) or local tax authorities. However we do issue checks through the bank which seems to work well hopefully with less risk.

> I prefer having the vendor pull the money. A word of caution. I once had a large credit card company empty my checking account when they pulled the whole balance rather than the balance due. Now i push the payments.

I look at it in terms of liability matching. For my long term money assets, equities, i have made no significant changes. However, due to my concerns about the stability of the bond market i have shorted my duration by moving a significant % of this shorter term "bucket" from a total bond market focus to short and ultra short term UST focus.

If this should happen i would take it and add 45% to our FI bucket and 55% to our equity bucket less $100 for a nice dinner for two.

One of the hardest things i have done is looking in the mirror and trying to understand who i am and why i behave the way i do. It's honestly hard work and i'm not close to done. Admitting that i didn't really know anything about money was quite sobering, embarrassing and at some point finally enlightening. Being willing to be "humble" and then learn and change. I wish this was something that could be taught but in my opinion it can't it must be learned.
