I feel compelled to say that as a single woman I am thankful to be fully engaged with my own finances, and am also thankful for the information on this site. My mother recommended Jonathan Clements' writing on finance to me back in the 1990s, and I've followed him since then. I am thankful that my parents shared financial responsibilities and information with each other. Funny enough- my mother's investments did better than dad's. This was mainly dur to her buy and hold strategy which was very different from my dad's approach.
I'm glad to be able to pay taxes that help fund education. I'd much rather live in a society where all are educated, not only out of altruism, but also as a strategy of self preservation.

Pay attention, guys. She will dump you like an out of style dress. . . News flash:
Women are people. Many of us are interested in relationships with men who understand this, and are not interested in much interaction with men who don't respect us. Your comment is a bit bizarre. Who are the guys you are addressing? Per the article she's happily married, and not open to dating the "guys" you seem to be speaking to. Also, your shopping comment about a woman equating a man with an out of style dress has nothing to do with what she wrote- maybe you watched too much "Sex in the City" at some point. Sounds like you're talking about a fictional character? This article was about a personal financial journey, which is the topic of this site. Maybe because I'm close to the same age as the writer, and also a woman, I recognized similarities in my own journey, and it was a positive reinforcement for my own life choices. Glad to read Kristine Hayes' perspective here.
Thank you for your posts. I also own oil companies in a total market index fund, but have divested from individual investments in these out of concern for the habitability of our planet. On a completely different note, I am only commenting here because the zero sum nature of the up/down votes on these comments cancelled my previous upvotes for your comments when I was logged in (I'm guessing) through a different account. I'm guessing the upvote I just made under this login will be cancelled out too. Hadn't really thought about this before, but I prefer sites that allow one to see the total agree and total disagree votes together, rather than the system used here that zeroes them out so that a large number of votes from each perspective can end up zeroing out and present an inaccurate image of disinterest in a topic.
I guess I should add that my IRA is a Roth, and I'm also taking advantage of Roth contributions in my 401K. My comment was mainly in reaction to the larger balances mentioned in the article, along with what I interpreted as some anti-tax views in the comments here.
Thank you. I had a similar reaction. Also, personally, I'm happy to pay a proportional part of my income through taxes to support the health of the society I live in.
