    • Well, I bought a pound of foolish for only a penny! Not to brag, or anything.

    • That one hurts the most for me. Where I live, tap water is great so the idea of paying dollars for 1 bottle of it is painful.

    • I used to get Macy's ads all the time in the mail. For some reason, one day I decided to read all the disclaimers and fine print. From what I remember, my wife and I would laugh about all the sales because it appeared nothing ever really sold at retail. The next time I received a mailer, I saw asterisks next to most of the prices. The fine print was very clear: "no items may have ever sold at the list price." Whether that was there because of a law, I don't know. At a minimum, Macy's was worried about being sued.

    • When I was around 30, I experienced a weird and painful headache while at work. It started with flashing lights and a coworker I spoke with about it said it was most likely a migraine. It occurred to me that this was perhaps my 3rd or 4th migraine ever. If you have ever had one, you'd understand how I would know how many I have had. For me, the pain was excruciating. The good news? I only got one about every 7 years. Until April 2021. That was the month I was jabbed twice with Pfizer's Covid shot. The next day I had a migraine, then another one the next week. For the next 6 weeks, I had 1 every week. For the next year, I had 2-3 migraines a month. After about 1 year, they stopped. So I agree with Dan: the shot works. Unfortunately, not in the way I was expecting. The flu shot nor any other vaccine has ever done this to me, and I have had many of them. Because of that, I no longer do any mRNA type vaccines. Covid is theoretical for me, but migraines are not.

    • It's really amazing how 2 kids in the same household, raised by the same parents can differ in outcomes, personality, success, and other important measures. I think it was Thomas Sowell who pointed this out and asked how we can hope to achieve equal outcomes among kids raised in different households If kids in the same household have different outcomes. Among my 12 brothers and sisters the difference in wealth is astonishing. No one is going hungry and we would not let it happen to any of our siblings. However, it has been a constant reminder to me of mother nature (nature/genetics) and my mother's hard work (nurture) in making sure we had a good chance at success.

    • The intent with my input is not to add comments/advice that are not applicable, so hopefully my suggestion to insure your success (sorry for the pun!) with term life insurance in case your well thought out plan goes awry, is ok. I believe this matters mainly if you have dependents/spouse and want to make sure they are taken care of in case you die early. I did this and am grateful. While I don't need the policy now, if my lung cancer diagnosis had come when I was younger, not having it would have been a big problem for my kids and wife.

    • I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for that "always in the future/coming soon" better mousetrap. In the meantime, I will stick with my low cost and passive Vanguard options.

    • I enjoyed it very much. A few weeks ago I was speaking with a coworker/friend who previously worked for the "Merc" (San Jose Mercury News) for almost 25 years writing about personal finance. I mentioned Jonathan's name to him and shared the news of his cancer diagnosis. The friend was very saddened to hear the news. He mentioned how Jonathan was always able to "say" (write) about complicated matters in a way that made it easy to understand.
