Well, this is a fine mess I've gotten myself into. Most here know me as Dan Smith, beer truck driver turned tax preparer, turned retiree. I logged into HD from a different email address and created this new account.

Mark, your off the beaten path home sounds truly idyllic. The local pub sounds like the perfect place for good conversation, a quiet pint or even just a cuppa. You sure you're not filthy richš
There are some counties in Michigan that severely hike up property taxes on non-resident owners. Some married couples file taxes separately, claiming that they live apart in order to get the resident rate at the lake property.
Mark, Iām thinking of places in the US like Sanibel Island, FL. The roads are clogged with tourists during the winter. The 6382 permanent residents must sigh a breath of relief when the island empties. I also imagine that a number of residents are long term, who owned the homes before prices skyrocketed.
That door swings both ways, Richard. There are many among the rank and file with similar negative attitudes regarding managers, even when the bossā act with good intentions.
Rodney King was on to something when he asked ācanāt we all just get alongā.

I believe there is honor, dignity, and potential in all work.
The beer distributor I worked for was owned by the family of a guy that was hired as a driver in the 1940s.
I know restaurateurs who started out as busboys.
Those who donāt aspire to ownership, provide a critical service to the economy and to their families and communities.

Thatās a great philosophy, Mark. Avoiding the self-inflicted wounds common to many workers is important to succeeding and advancing on the job.

Bogdan, I sincerely thank you again for deciphering the changes to the tax code.
However, I need to get this off my chest. Weren't we promised a tax return that would fit on a postcard or single piece of paper? My educated opinion is that when politicians promise simplicity, the opposite occurs. I have heard CPAs joke about charging by the pound for tax return prep. I think I hear them laughing all the way to the bank.

Mike, I was wondering about that while writing my post. What a nightmare!

Rick, it's interesting that the buyout was slashed but the monthly benefit remained unchanged.
