I was surprised by this list - especially coming from an experienced investor. Index funds seem to be your only vehicle and perhaps your personal residence. No Gold, REIT, I-bonds, annuities, rental properties or individual stocks ?? And why would you include Flood insurance in this article? This whole thing strikes me as extremely limiting. I’ll re-read, I must have missed the point.

My early retirement (age 61) was a real bummer to deal with ACA. $12,000 yr premium; $7,000 deductible for each of us but pregnancy was covered condition. Rip off. Of course, Medicare premium at $138/mo was ridiculously low too. Government messes up everything it touches, IMO

I appreciate everything but #6. I cringe when folks use investing mentality/criteria on their personal home. I get it but … it brings a whole other dimension into a integral part of living.

I’ve been warning family and friends of likely taxes in our 70’s and 80’s due to IRA RMD’s on top of SS benefits and IRRMA penalties. Thanks for the explanation and suggestions. I’ve been fortunate to have sheltered some taxable income with rental real estate (depreciation) and NOL’s from investments in business start ups with my son. It’s a serious concern to which more “savers” need to pay attention.
