    • I started buying U.S. Eagle coins from the US mint when they started making them in 1986. I think they were $400 an ounce. Today on the Mint web site they sell for $5000 per ounce. I’m leaving them in my estate for relatives to inherit (no capital gains since they will inherit the stepped up basis). Who knows what they could be valued in another 20 years.

    • My humblest condolences to Jonathan’s family. I just purchased his latest book from Amazon, and loved his writing. I will forever be thankful he built Humble Dollar and shared his sound and wise insights.

    • I started adding some Vanguard Total Index (TI) shares late this afternoon. I have no idea if we fall another 20 per cent or the bear market lasts another year. I suspect a lot of uncertainty will be answered come the second week of November - a mere five months away.

    • I'm waiting for the "Whip Inflation Now" buttons from Gerald Ford to come back into style from 1974. Hard to believe it's been nearly 50 years ago when that was the plan to deal with 23 per cent annual inflation. I was a sailor in the US Navy making the then princely sum of $288 per month.

    • If you haven't updated your estate plans recently, you might want to see your attorney to add language giving your executor or survivor the rights to your digital assets. I have about 20,000 photos on iCloud Family backup as well as an online only account with the US Treasury Direct. I suspect the right to access digital tax records and other digital artifacts will become more valuable, and the new digital asset clause to your will/trust/etc. will be very valuable.

    • I bought some Berkshire after the October 1987 crash for about $2000/share. It used to be if you took delivery of the share certificates you could donate $5/share each year to a charity you sent to the company. I got my share certificates and kept them in a safety deposit box. That $2000/share price expanded to about $9000/share in 1990. It then crashed to $5000/share and I bought some more. My wife wanted a new car, so I bought her one taking out a loan and kept my Berkshire. Best money move I ever stumbled into.
