Guys, this site is valuable to all. I assume hundreds who, like me, have not made a contribution still benefit greatly by reading posts from the gentle, informed folks who comment here.

Those of us on the west coast were delighted to see the video of his service and it is good to see the good work continue. I am certain Jonathan would be pleased.

All the best,
Dennis McGillis

Yes, the good work will continue. As you know, Jonathan endeavored to take care of his affairs as soon as he learned of his diagnosis. Humble Dollar was a key part of this. Bills are being paid. Please note that transition takes time and cannot be rushed. Humble Dollar was Jonathan’s work, his hobby, and his entertainment. Please be patient with items needing moderation. And please keep in mind we are all doing the best we can.

Wishing you and team the very best in managing this transition. Thanks so much!

Take care of yourself. Much as we all appreciate what Jonathan created here and want it to continue, it was his thing. Do what you need to do for yourself. Thanks.

HumbleDollar will live on. That’s what Jonathan wanted. It’s now up to us to continue that legacy.

Thanks for stepping up, Bogdan. This is undoubtedly a time of transition for all of us.

That said, the site has felt somewhat rudderless recently. In the past, Jonathan was very active in the comments, and anyone could email him and expect a quick response. Currently, the website’s contact information still directs people to email him. Updating some of the sites content might be in order.

I may be viewing things a bit pessimistically due to limited information, but I submitted the HumbleDollar sitemap to archive.org yesterday to ensure that the content remains accessible, even if the site were to unexpectedly go offline. For those interested, archived content is available here: https://web.archive.org/web/20251112155108/https://humbledollar.com/

Can you provide reassurance that hosting bills are being paid? Who should we contact if we encounter any problems or concerns? Is there active monitoring and moderation of posts to ensure discussions remain respectful, constructive, and on-topic?

Many of us value this site greatly. You’re filling big shoes (thanks again). Some might be willing to volunteer their time and effort to help sustain it.

I agree. I have been feeling that a little more moderation would be a good thing. Until recently I was one of the volunteer moderators on a much larger and more active site. Unless I was traveling or sick I checked the site at least twice a day and usually more often, as did my fellow moderators. It was unusual for items held for moderation to stay in the queue for more than a couple of hours except overnight (and we had moderators on both coasts). We deleted advertising and, recently, obvious AI. We removed all or part of posts that were out of line and in extreme cases, after consulting the admins, might suspend a repeat offender’s posting privileges for a while.

Since moving to a CCRC I am staying too busy to devote that kind of time to the site. I suspect Bogdan has other things to do as well. However, this site is much smaller and should require less time. Perhaps he might consider asking some people for volunteer assistance.
